Wrong Place, Wrong Time (excerpt)

Synopsis:

Frieda, a Holocaust survivor, has recently been having nightmares about her experiences at the hands of the Nazis.

Her granddaughter, Ruth, takes her to see her GP, Dr Richtig, but Frieda is resistant to all their suggestions.

The following day marks the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, followed by a massive upswing in anti-Semitic violence in Australia.

Given Frieda’s history, Ruth is desperate to shield her from all of these terrible developments by having certain TV stations blocked, hiding her transistor radio and tearing certain pages out of her newspapers.

Frieda starts experiencing Holocaust-related hallucinations during the day, and Ruth is concerned that her grandmother is tipping into psychosis.

Given what is happening out on the streets of their own city, Dr Richtig is unable to justify such a diagnosis.
