Description

Synopsis:

Dr Emma Huxley faces a US law that limits embryo research to the first 14 days after conception.  In the quest for knowledge, however, she chooses to ignore this arbitrary limitation and risk jail time.

Her chief antagonist, Paul Matheson, a Republican senator, is doing his utmost to put her behind bars, in spite of the fact that her late father, an obstetrician, once saved the life of Paul’s wife, Clara, and his son, Peter.

However, Peter, 20, despite a sturdy Catholic upbringing, has become a reclusive incel, addicted to the internet and leaning heavily towards the far Right.

When Clara inadvertently falls pregnant, Emma’s mother, Audrey, has a stroke, and Emma herself ends up on trial, each of the participants in this high-stakes narrative begins to show their primitive streak.
