Synopsis:
Joan, seeing herself as the daughter of God, begs in the streets, delivering Haiku for money. She is enabled to keep body and soul together only by the efforts of her daughter, Ava who, in order to put herself through medical school, earns a living as a sex-worker.
Ava’s regular client is a middle-aged man by the name of Angelo who, in addition to conducting decidedly shady business deals, is a heavy gambler.
His recent run of bad luck at the gaming table has led to domestic friction with his wife, Giordana, who works at an Op shop.
Doing nicely from her earnings from Angelo, Ava starts taking various items from her wardrobe to the Op shop, where she strikes up a relationship with Giordana, who invites her to dinner.
The stage is set for a showdown with Angelo.
In a tightly structured work, the various ways in which money relates to poetry are laid out in new and engaging ways.
