The Critic (excerpt)

Synopsis:

Alistair, a theatre critic, has been married to Phoebe, a piano teacher, for many years.

Unbeknownst to Phoebe, Alistair has been having an affair with their GP, Priscilla, for a number of those years.

Priscilla becomes pregnant with Alistair’s child, but decides to pass if off as her husband’s.

Meanwhile, Phoebe’s star pupil, Chin, leaves her after many years, ostensibly in favour of a teacher who can get him to the top faster.

Alistair develops pancreatic cancer, with just 18 months to live.

Phoebe bumps into Chin, who reveals that the real reason he left her as a teacher was that he was developing feelings for her.

The stage is set for all these lines to converge.
