The Bechdel Test (excerpt)

Synopsis:

Ember, a famous young movie actor, is approached by Carson, a hotshot young director, to appear in a movie that requires that she appear in four nude sex scenes.

Despite her agent, Ariette’s best efforts, she refuses, citing her support of the Bechdel Test as a way of assessing whether or not a movie is sexist.

Their meeting takes place in a cafe where their waitress, Belle, is noticed by Carson, who offers her the role of Ember’s body double for the sex scenes.

Ember remains unconvinced.

Carson, also the screenwriter on the project, produces another draft that converts the central relationship into a lesbian relationship, hoping that this will sidestep the Bechdel Test.

The ultimate result, though conforming to the test, comes totally out of left field.
