Syllables (excerpt)

Description

Synopsis:

We live in an Orwellian dystopia in which Smith, the Chief of Words, has decreed that no word shall be uttered or written that contains more than one syllable.

The way in which this limits and constrains thought and action within the world of the play soon becomes apparent, as no word of dialogue contains more than one syllable throughout.

Jude rebels and is imprisoned for life.

Smith tries to use her for his own political purposes.

In the end, actions speak louder than words, but they are only possible because of the spirit that informs those words.
