Synopsis:
Frankie, born as a pig, has been engineered to function as a human. This ‘experiment’ has drawn the ire of a Catholic archbishop, who has referred to her as a ‘disgusting pig’.
Frankie, with the help of Elise, her attorney, sues the Archbishop for defamation.
During the trial, it emerges that Frankie has been in an intimate relationship with Teddy, a human. As a result, Teddy is charged with bestiality.
There are several further twists and turns that add layers of complexity to the issue of what constitutes a human being in this deeply thought-provoking and transgressive piece.
Character Breakdown:
The play is a 2-hander: 2 females
FRANKIE 40s
ELISE 30s
Production Note:
FRANKIE is a pig in ‘human’ form. Though able to walk on her hind legs (with the aid of two sticks modified for her trotters) and dressed in a silk robe, she is markedly obese and has porcine facial features. The initial effect should be somewhat unsettling, somewhat ambiguous, possibly shocking.
Her personal hygiene is poor, with evidence that she has been rolling in mud, intermittently letting out involuntary squeals and grunts. Her breathing is generally laboured and somewhat wheezy/snuffly.
Running-time: 75 minutes.
Production History: Not yet produced.
