Synopsis:
Covid has just struck, and we are confronted by a world suddenly filled with unprecedented uncertainties.
Enola, a marketing executive, is considering whether to enter into a relationship with Elsdon, a man she has only encountered online. Elsdon, unbeknownst to her, is both married and a compulsive gambler. Rose, the croupier whom Elsdon favours, must decide whether to invest in Elsdon’s latest gamble, Hydroxychloroquine, which has been touted as a cure for Covid.
Enola’s mother, Cyd, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but is in denial. Her specialist has advised chemotherapy, followed by surgery, but her husband, Frank, has gone online to find a surgeon who is happy to undertake the risk of immediate major surgery without chemo.
Rose, who is considering leaving her partner, Joe, for Elsdon, ends up contracting Covid from him in the process of becoming pregnant to him.
It becomes apparent, through all these complex connections, that what is lacking in all this is not so much certainty as empathy.
