Synopsis:
Beth Martin is a young, up-and-coming journalist, with her eyes on the prize.
She’s good at what she does but, with two young children and a husband (Greg) who works as a lowly-paid teacher, life remains a struggle.
Suddenly, after winning a journalism award, she finds herself the subject of attention of Jack Peterson, one of Hollywood’s most bankable megastars.
At first that attention is subtle – and quite flattering – and Beth is not at all sure as to Jack’s precise objective in seeking her out.
As time goes on, however, she finds herself – and her family – slowly enveloped in Jack’s world – an enormously beguiling world of ease, wealth and extraordinary power.
Even at this point, it remains unclear as to what Jack actually wants from her, but a taste of his world and the possibilities it holds out both for herself and her children keeps her in the game.
And a subtle game it is – of cat and mouse – with a strange inversion of the natural order as he, the star, virtually stalks her, the journalist.
Every time Beth believes she has a handle on what he wants, there is a subtle shift until, finally, events supervene, and he puts his cards on the table.
In order to stay in the game, compromise is necessary.
The higher the stakes, the greater the compromise.
But Beth has passed the point of no return.
In a subtle, witty and provocative screenplay – based on the true story of one of Hollywood’s most stellar personalities – Hollywooed takes us on a journey that is intriguing, gripping, unsettling and, ultimately, unique.
