Synopsis:
Jay Grotsky is a loser’s loser.
Balding, overweight, and approaching the age when even youth may no longer be on his side, he’s all but ready to call it quits when a chance statistic, beamed out over late-night TV, changes his life.
He places a ‘help wanted’ ad in the paper and, although he has no legitimate job to offer, uses the opportunity to screen for possible sexual encounters. The successful applicant is Cerisse Bardot, who personifies everything Jay ever dreamed of in a woman.
Their ‘professional’ relationship appears to blossom until Jay, operating in a completely different ballpark, and encouraged by the warmth of Cerisse’s responses, finally takes the plunge.
The result, which sees Jay defended in court by the hard-nosed, hard-drinking, hard-smoking Olivia Wendy Holmes, culminates in a somewhat bizarre court case that sheds an entirely new light on the whole issue of sexual harassment.
Jay emerges from the confrontation a new if no less balding man.
In a screenplay that lurches from one hilarious situation to the next, we are gently prodded into reconsidering a few of our lazier gender biases.
