Fantasy Girl

Synopsis:

At 25, Niu, who works in the history department at the local university, is regarded as a ‘Leftover Woman’

Her mother, Shuang, is convinced that her daughter will die alone, especially as Niu has followed in her late father’s footsteps, becoming a political activist.

In the wake of a protest on the university grounds, Niu is visited by Lily Tang, a police officer, who warns her of the dangers of working long hours and competing with males.  Shuang agrees, fearful that Niu will turn into a lesbian.

Between the two of them, Shuang and Lily organise a blind date for Niu, during which she actually undergoes the transformation into a lesbian.

This makes national news, and Niu becomes known as the ‘Fantasy Girl’, who lives out society’s expectations of what will become of her.

But far more surprising events are in store for her in a land where, if one is to follow all the rules, one can only survive through the intercession of miracles.
