Synopsis:
Sinead and Pierra are a young couple whose parents are about to meet for the first time, in direct contravention of Covid restrictions.
Sinead’s mother, Imogen, is a self-made, fabulously wealthy businesswoman who is wheelchair-bound, due to a skiing accident which she believes was the fault of her husband, Charles. This one incident has more or less delineated the shape of their marriage since.
Pierre is a maths prodigy, somewhere on the spectrum, whose mother, Carmel, is a professor of psychiatry and whose father, Chinh – who is Vietnamese – is a member of the federal shadow cabinet.
Sinead is a left-wing activist and rebel.
Imogen, a force of nature and a law unto herself, starts the evening mildly drunk, and it goes downhill from there.
What we witness here – along with the maid, who observes all but says nothing – is the ever-entertaining yet sad spectacle of unchecked entitlement being played out in its full glory.
