Synopsis:
Covid has struck and the country is in lockdown. Toilet paper is at a premium, and Eric, who works stacking shelves at the supermarket, is clandestinely selling toilet rolls on a street corner at night for outrageous prices.
Anita, a nurse, buys one of his rolls for her widowed father, Clive, who suffers from a bowel condition.
Clive meets Vera as they queue at the supermarket. They become friends and start to flout Covid regulations by meeting regularly.
Anita’s partner, Rowan, has lost his job as an actor and is profoundly depressed.
Being unaware of each other’s relationship to Clive, Anita and Vera have a serious altercation at the supermarket over a packet of Tim Tam biscuits, Clive’s favourite. In the midst of the fray, Vera bites Anita’s hand, which then becomes infected, landing her in hospital with renal failure.
Rowan, meanwhile, has suicided.
Having become aware of Anita’s identity, Vera does everything she can to help look after Clive.
Eric has donated a kidney to Anita, who has been on dialysis.
In her capacity as a Covid Compliance Officer, Vera takes part in a police sting operation that sees Eric jailed for 7 years.
Anita engineers his escape but, whilst the two of them are on the run, Eric develops severe Covid and dies in her arms.
