A Life (excerpt)

Synopsis:

Elspeth, a Nobel Prize-winning author, is approached by Vanessa, who wishes to become her biographer.

Elspeth is very resistant to the idea at first, but Vanessa is nothing if not indefatigable, and finally manages to convince her.

What follows is a long, ambivalent and strangely symbiotic relationship that evolves and deepens over time, culminating in both Elspeth’s death and a final, quite shocking act of love on the part of Vanessa.
