Synopsis:
The life and times of Eleanor Marx, the daughter of Karl Marx.
In her short life (she died at 43), Eleanor Marx managed to pack what most people could only achieve in five lifetimes.
She translated much of her father’s masterwork, ‘Das Kapital’, into English, introduced Ibsen to the English-speaking world by both translating his work and performing in it (alongside her good friend, George Bernard Shaw), was instrumental in setting up the trade union movement in England, was politically active in many spheres of public life, including women’s suffrage and the Dreyfus Affair and, alas, became involved with a man, Edward Aveling, who would one day betray her, which is what led to her untimely suicide.
